A brief introduction:
Hello Everyone! My name is Luca Donghi.
I started my career in the asset management industry as a Portfolio Manager in Luxembourg. Here, I co-managed multi-asset portfolios invested in funds of funds. Today, I still work in asset management as a Portfolio Manager for a much bigger firm in Dublin, co-managing several billion euros of UCITS funds across different asset classes. My focus remains on asset allocation but relying more and more on the help of machine learning models.
Why did I take up the FDP challenge?
I pursued the FDP designation because I wanted to prove my professional knowledge and enthusiasm for this topic, as well as to expand my understanding of this incredibly vast and fast-evolving field. It’s an important recognition for my career development, the proof that with determination, commitment, and passion, even a very complicated subject like machine learning can be mastered.
What is great about FDP:
It has been a few years since I started approaching the field of data science and machine learning. I have tested my newly acquired skills by coding some ML models, but I wanted to challenge my knowledge of these topics with a well-defined and comprehensive curriculum. Passing the exam gave me more confidence in my understanding of this subject.
The FDP designation gives me more credibility when I talk about machine learning to colleagues, counterparts, and potential new employers.
Being part of the FDP community helps keep me up to speed with new breakthroughs in this field and taking inspiration from other members findings and thoughts about ML.
My advice for aspiring industry professionals:
Keep learning, no matter how many courses you attended or certifications you obtained. Keep learning and try to increase your edge in the markets.

Luca is a Portfolio Manager responsible for the asset allocation of UCITS funds, employed by Fineco Asset Management in Dublin. Graduated in Management at Bocconi University in Milan, Luca earned both the CFA and the CMT Designations in addition to the Financial Data Professional Charter.
