Passing the FDP Exam is a key component to becoming an FDP Charterholder

  • Exam runs for up to 4 hours, and is computer-administered through Prometric Test Centers & Remote Proctoring
  • From 2025, the exam will be entirely MCQ (Multiple Choice Question), including SIT (Scenario Item-Set) questions.
  • The exam covers all aspects of the core FDP Charter curriculum. Note that Python is trained & tested separately.
  • Each topic in the curriculum has keywords & learning objectives as well as required readings.
  • There are no penalties for wrong answers - therefore candidates are encourage to attempt all questions.
  • Passing scores are determined by the FDP Exam Committee & signed off by the Advisory Board.

Candidates should anticipate approximately 200+ hours of study in preparation for the FDP exam.

  • A Candidate who is able to meet all learning objectives in the Study Guide, and has completed the Practice Questions and Sample Exam, should be well prepared for the exam.
  • For additional resources in preparing for the FDP exam, you may wish to consider our AI-enabled learning platform FDP Tutor and/or a Prep Provider study program.

FDP Passing the exam gives eligibility to become an FDP Charterholder, subject to:

  • Exam results are emailed approximately 2 weeks after the last exam date (including remote examinations).
  • Completing the Python coding requirements
  • Submit their signed FDP Institute Code of Ethics
  • Nominate two professional references
FDP Charterholders who remain in good standing with the FDP Charterholder Code of Ethics, have the ongoing right to use the FDP designation. Unlike many professional bodies, there is no ongoing / subscription fee for Charterholders to do this.
